This Is How We Do It . . .

The Battery

You've got your new e-cig, you've had a good look at all the bits and you're ready to get set up and vaping. Let's go over setting up your e-cig.
Charging instruction for e-cig batteryAll about charging your battery
When you're e-cig is sent to you, the battery is locked off for safety reasons while it's in transit.  It will have a small charge, but it won't be fully charged so the first thing you need to do is charge the battery.  Well, unlock the battery and then charge the battery; press the battery button 5 times in under 3 seconds [see image to the right].

Take the USB charger and plug it into your computer (the highest USB port you've got - 2.0 or better) or use the wall plug* supplied. Make sure that the charger shows a green light; the charger must have power before you connect the battery. Now take your battery and screw it into the charger.

The charger light will turn red and stay red until the battery is fully charged, then it will turn green.  The batteries have an auto shut off feature to prevent over-charging but best practice is to keep an eye on the battery while it's charging and remove it as soon as the charger shows a green light; they say it's best not to leave any device on charge unattended.

*Side note: you can use most USB wall plugs to power the charger cable, that bit isn't all that important, but only use the charger cable supplied with the e-cig.  Any other type of charger cable may damage the battery or probably just won't work.

Clearomisers - The Top Bit

OK, now your battery's fully charged, let's get onto filling your clearomiser.

Most bottom coil clearomisers have the same filling process, so our H2, H5 and ProTank 2 share the same basic instructions to fill [yep, they're all bottom coil clearomisers].
H2 and ProTank 2 filling instructions :
  1. Turn your clearomiser upside down and remove the base and coil unit [threaded base for the ProTank 2].
  2. Have a look inside the clearomiser and you'll see a centre tube.  This tube carries air through the clearomiser when you inhale, so you don't want to get any liquid down there.  If it happens that you do get some liquid in the centre tube, it will flow through to the other end and out the mouthpiece, making a nice little mess for you to clean up.  And don't forget to clean the centre tube and mouthpiece if you do have an accident or you'll get a nasty surprise when you take your first draw on your e-cig after you've finished filling it . . . tastes awful!
  3. Get your liquid bottle and direct the needle tip towards the side of the clearomiser ... it's kind of like pouring a beer . . . you need to hold the clearomiser on a slight angle to ensure that the liquid runs down the inside wall and not through the centre tube. The ProTank 2 has a bar across the opening at the bottom of the tank so you'll need to direct the needle tip to one side of the bar.
  4. Leave about a 2 - 3 mm gap from the end of the centre tube in the H2 or fill to below the metal bar in the ProTank 2.
  5. Screw the base and coil unit [threaded base for the ProTank 2] back onto the clearomiser and connect to your battery.

Getting It All Together

We're charged and filled, so the only thing left to do is put the e-cig together and get vaping.

Pretty basic stuff.  If you can put a torch or a pen together, you can put an e-cig together.  Make sure that the connection goes on straight so you don't strip the threads.  If it doesn't feel right, unscrew it and start again.
Righty Tight : Lefty Loose

No need to go all Incredible Hulk on it, just tighten it until it's secure and you're comfortable with it, you don't want to damage the threads

E-cigs are a tricky little with the thread on the battery and the clearomiser forming part of the electric circuit that powers the e-cig. So you want to make sure that the threads are always clean to ensure good contact and full power to the battery.

A good habit to get into is to clean the battery heating plate and thread and the thread in the base of your clearomiser every time you disconnect them, charging or refilling. Some people go with the cotton bud option but I prefer to use a tissue cause I can scrunch it up and it fills the space . . . doesn't miss a spot. Your choice, but the best practice to adopt from the word 'go'.

How to put your e-cigarette together
The battery only works when you press the battery button.  Press the battery button and inhale.  Release the button after inhaling. Make sure that you press the battery button before you inhale.  If you inhale without pressing the button you may end up with a mouthful of liquid [icky! . . . it has something to do with equalising pressures . . .]  And make sure that you hold down the battery button until you have finished inhaling [same possible result as above].

If the heating plate on the battery becomes dry or the clearomiser is too low on liquid, you'll get a burnt taste.  Make sure you've always got enough liquid in the clearomiser to avoid it . . .  it's called a 'dry hit' and it's pretty yukky.  You need to keep enough liquid in the clearomiser to cover the bottom half of the coil; the post of the coil isn't important, [it draws in air, not liquid] it's the little itsy bitsy wicks under the silicone cap on the coil that you need to keep wet.

When you press the battery button, the LED light inside it will turn on and will turn off when you release the button.  Pressing the button for too long can cause overheating and potential damage to the clearomiser [it can burn out the coil] and / or the battery itself.. The LED light in the battery will flash to let you know it's not happy; just give it a moment and wait until it returns to normal temperature before using again..

Side Note : The ProTank 2 has a tendency to get warm during normal use.  This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.  I'm assuming it's because the ProTank 2 has a pyrex glass tank which conducts heat, whereas the H2 has a plastic tank, which doesn't conduct heat [at least not as well as glass does].  Look for the other signs that it's overheating - specifically the battery LED light flashing or the burnt flavour [whoops! I've just cooked my coil].

Before you take your very first draw on what will soon become your new BFF, take a moment to think about HOW you smoke. Generally, most people take short, sharp draws on a cigarette.  DON'T do that with your e-cig.  It's a different technique: remember you're not smoking, you're vaping and there are subtle differences in how you vape vs how you smoke.  I'll get right into it and explain all the scientific stuff on the Your First Vape page, but for now, let's just go with the short version.  Vaping effectively means taking longer, slow draws..  It's all to do with absorption and the brain . . . just trust me on this one [or flick over to Your First Vape and read ahead], you'll avoid a lot of coughing and hacking. Remember your very first draw on a cigarette?  Enough said then.
